ACTIVE SCHOOL FLAG

An Active School is a school that strives to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.
The Department of Education and Skills and Healthy Ireland encourage ALL schools to organise an Active School Week (ASW) as part of their annual school calendar.
The ASW initiative is about providing FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity opportunities for ALL members of the school community. It allows schools to reinforce the message that not only is physical activity good for you but it also very enjoyable. It provides schools with an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the physical activity opportunities that are available in their locality and to work collaboratively with students, parents and members of the community.
Suncroft N.S. had their first Active Schools week last May. the children participated in a range of activities. The school organised a number of outside coaches and instructors. Each day began with a whole school warm up followed by a dance activity on the school yard. Every day we focused on a different strand of the P.E. curriculum. The children experienced dance, athletics, games, hurling, football, outdoor and adventures activities, orienteering, mini golf and basketball throughout the week. The Active Schools Week was a huge success and all involved thoroughly enjoyed the week.
Suncroft National School was awarded the Active School Flag in June of 2015.
We continue to maintain our active school status and we will keep you posted on upcoming events in the news tab!!!
